Cathedral or Seu of Palma de Mallorca
The cathedral of Palma or Santa Maria, is the cathedral of the capital of Mallorca and the Mallorcans know it as La Seu. This cathedral, which was built on the orders of King Jaime I in the 13th century, is one of the most beautiful in Europe due to its privileged location in front of the Bay of Palma, with spectacular views. over the sea Of Mediterranean Gothic style, it also has other styles that have been added over the years, from its Romanesque doorways and Baroque altarpieces, to its partial neoclassical reconstruction, the modernist chandelier of Gaudí or the altar of the Chapel of San Pedro by the contemporary artist, Miquel Barceló. Its construction in three naves, one of the largest in Europe, and its terraces make it an essential place to visit but, arguably, what makes it truly unique is its large rose window, the largest in the Gothic world, also known as the Gothic Eye and one of the largest in the history of Christianity. This record-breaking rose window has a diameter of about 13 meters and 1,236 crystals. With 5 rose windows in total and 59 windows, the Seu de Mallorca is also known as the Cathedral of Light., a true jewel of Christianity and one of the favorite monuments of the residents of the Balearic Islands.
S'Hort del Rei in Palma de Mallorca
S' Hort del Rei is an urban garden located in the city of Palma de Mallorca at the foot of the Royal Almudiana Palace. Its fountains are reminiscent of the Generalife of the Alhambra in miniature. These gardens also have a pond with two famous swans that live in it and receive many visits from the people of Palma, especially the younger ones. La Lonja of Palma de Mallorca
La Lonja is located in the city of Palma de Mallorca. It is a public Gothic building built as a mercantile exchange and for the meeting of the merchants of the time. It was built by the Mallorcan architect and sculptor, Guillem Sagrera, between 1420 and 1452. Its ribbed vaults and its six pillars with stone palm trees are remarkable. In its interior different temporary exhibitions are held throughout the year.
Paseo del Borne
The Paseo del Borne or Passeig del Born is located in the heart of Palma de Mallorca and is the work of the Madrid architect Isidro Gonzalez. This avenue, located next to Jaime III, Palma's shopping street par excellence, runs from the Plaza de Juan Carlos I to the Plaza de la Reina. Surrounded by trees and benches, this avenue, guarded by two sphinxes at each end, is an icon of the city of Palma and is on the list of the most beautiful streets in Spain. Presently, a meeting place has several cafes and restaurants and hosts temporary events such as the book house, the Christmas lighting of lights or concerts of San Sebastian, patron saint of Palma.
