Mallorca

Majorca is a Spanish island, the largest in the Balearic Islands archipelago, and the second most populous in Spain. Majorca is known as the island of calm and tranquillity due to the character of the Majorcan people and their relaxed way of life.  Majorca has it all: good weather, the Mediterranean Sea, spectacular beaches and coves, mountains, culture, tradition, history and gastronomy. Majorca has a character all of its own, two languages are spoken on the island: Majorcan and Spanish. Although the island is internationally known as a sun and beach destination, the truth is that Majorca is much more than that, in recent years, many travelers, from all over the world, have come to enjoy its mountain towns such as Fornalutx, Valldemossa or Sóller, located in the Sierra de Tramontana, a World Heritage Site; or to discover the city of Palma, with its exciting historic centre and where one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world is located, the Cathedral of Santa María. But they also come to discover an island full of a culture where artists of the stature of Chopin, George Sand, Rubén Darío or Robert Graves left their mark and created some of their most famous works, or to visit some of the museums such as Es Baluard, the contemporary art museum that houses important collections of this time. In addition, Majorca, together with the rest of the Balearic Islands, has its own history marked by the Talayotic settlements and the infantry slingers of the islands that managed to expel the Roman legions for years. Some villages and burial sites from this era are preserved, as well as those from Roman times, for example, the Roman ruins of Pollentia, in the municipality of Alcudia. Other points of interest in Mallorca are its caves, among which the Cuevas del Drach and Cuevas dels Hams stand out, both in Porto Cristo, as well as the white caves of Campanet. Of course, we cannot stop talking about Majorca by mentioning its beaches, from Muro to Arenal beaches, with their kilometers of white sand, then there are Majorca's famous coves, for example, Caló des Moro, Estellencs, Cala San Vicente, Aucanada and Formentor. Similarly, we can’t talk about Majorca without mentioning the gastronomy where we find some very traditional dishes that have become recognized throughout the world. The ensaimada, the sobrasada and the Quely biscuit are just a few examples, but the truth is that its gastronomic richness is much greater than this: brut rice, Majorcan fried rice, Majorcan soups, suckling pig and roast lamb, Majorcan-style fish, empanadas, trampó, tumbet, vegetable coca, Rubiols, Crespells, Doblegats, Cardenal de Lloseta... the list is endless. As if that were not enough, Majorca is also a land of fine wine with two of its won appellations of Origin: Binissalem and Pla i Llevant. Not forgetting the famous Majorcan liqueur hierbas, which can be found in various styles some with a higher alcohol content than others, it can be dry, mixed or sweet but there are lots of other delicious liqueurs; almond liqueur, Palo mallorquín liqueur, orange liqueur and mead; the Amazonas rum, which is usually mixed with coffee. Not forgetting the classic Suau brandy, treasured by locals and visitors alike. Finally, we can't end without mentioning the recent additions such as craft beers and Majorcan gin.
