What to see in Mediterranean?
Sa Calobra
Sa Calobra is a small cove in Majorca located in the Sierra de Tramuntana. Surrounded by spectacular mountains, it is a unique enclave in Mallorca. Its location and small dimensions make Sa Calobra a magical place. The road to access Sa Calobra is incredible and one of the most famous on the island for its curves with more than 10 kilometers of ups and downs, its viewpoints and its spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa
The Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa is the most emblematic building of this small mountain town located in the Sierra de Tramontana, in Mallorca. It is noted for its green neoclassical dome and for being the home of many artists, including the pianist Frédéric Chopin and the writers Rubén Darío, Miguel de Unamuno, Azorín, Jovellano, Santiago Rusiñol and the writer George Sand. In fact, during his stay at the Charterhouse, Frédéric Chopin composed Preludes Op.28, while his partner, George Sand -pseudonym of Amandine- wrote the internationally famous book A Winter in Mallorca. Valldemossa was a great inspiration for the pianist and the novelist if we taking account that they only spent 95 days in the Mallorcan paradise. The Valldemossa Charterhouse complex consists of the Palace of King Sancho and the concert hall, the Church of the Charterhouse, the old monastic pharmacy, the museum of Frédéric Chopin and George Sand and the Municipal Museum of Valldemossa, divided into four sections: An exhibition of the old Guasp printing press, one of the best preserved in Europe, and a collection of 1590 woodcut matrices from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries; a room dedicated to Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria; a room of works by painters who were inspired by this part of the island, the Serra de Tramuntana and, finally, a collection of Contemporary Art.
Church of San Bartolomé, Valldemossa
The church of San Bartolomé or Sant Bartomeu is a 13th-century construction that bears the name of the patron saint of Valldemossa. This Gothic-style parish church with a neoclassical bell tower is open to its parishioners and the general public. You can enter during the day to admire its white vault, its rose window and its paintings.
House of Blessed Saint Catherine Thomas
Saint Catherine Thomas, is known as the blessed although in reality she is canonized. Born in the 16th century in Valldemossa, she is the patron saint of this municipality and her birthplace is still preserved, now converted into a chapel in her honour. This chapel is located in front of the Church of San Bartolomé. Santa Catalina Thomás is the most revered saint in Mallorca since she was the first Mallorcan saint. Her remains remain intact in the Convent of Santa Magdalena, in Palma, where she entered at the age of 21. Several miracles are attributed to her the appearance of saints and the experimentation of the greatest ecstasy in history (21 days). Thus, she was beatified in 1792 and sanctified in 1930. In her birthplace you will find an image of the saint and a small altar and, walking through the town, you will see that the houses have some small tiles of the blessed as well as various elements that allude to her, such as the fountain and the Molinet de la Beateta.
Sa Miranda viewpoint
The Mirador de Sa Miranda des Lledoners is located in Valldemossa, a pretty town in Mallorca. Located at the end of Calle Jovellanos, from this viewpoint you can see the town with the church of San Bartolomé in the background, the valley and some of the mountains that make up the Sierra de Tramontana.
Central Market of Valencia
Traditional market of Valencia in which you will find more than 300 stalls of fresh and local products. It opened in 1928 and stands out for its spectacular architecture and its stained glass windows, which make it one of the most visited buildings in Valencia. In addition, it is one of the largest markets in Europe.
The Market of Valencia
La Lonja de la Seda de Valencia is a civil Gothic building declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Inside you will discover its impressive Salón Columnario or Salón de Contratación, the Patio de Naranjos and the Torreón where the chapel of the Inmaculada is located on the first floor and the upper floors that were created as a prison for defaulters.
Round Square of Valencia
This square is located in the center of Valencia, with its eye-catching three-storey circular construction surrounded by small traditional shops, where you can buy handicrafts, embroidery, fabrics, souvenirs from Valencia, and tapas bars located on the ground floor. In the center of the Plaza Redonda, there is a fountain installed from where you can see the bell tower of Santa Catalina.
Valencia Cathedral and Miguelete
The Cathedral of Valencia or Cathedral of the Holy Chalice is a building that combines several architectural styles. From the impressive Gothic door of the Apostles, the miguelete and the dome in the fourteenth and fifteenth century, through the various Renaissance, Baroque and neoclassical styles, until the twenty-first century. Of great beauty, it also is noted for the quality of its paintings by various artists, including Francisco de Goya, for its choir and altarpiece. But, undoubtedly, the undisputed protagonist of the Valencian cathedral is the Holy Chalice, which is located in the chapel of the same name. This chalice dates from the Alexandrian period and is considered the Holy Grail. Although there are some skeptics due to its medieval appearance, the truth is that the relic is the agate cup, the upper part of the chalice, a precious Alexandrian cup of oriental origin that archaeologists consider to date from the years 100 to 50 BC. The lower part (the foot, the handles and the naveta supporting the cup), would have been added later, in medieval times. Hence the gold, pearls and precious stones and the alabaster vessel in Islamic style.
Carmen neighborhood, Valencia
Located in the district of Ciutat Vella, in the heart of the city, the Barrio del Carmen is the authentic historical center of Valencia and one of the largest medieval neighborhoods in Europe. Its name is due to the church of Carmen Calzado, which is located there, next to the square of the same name. In this emblematic neighborhood, you will discover many places and restaurants where to eat or have a drink but also a lot of history. Formerly delimited by a Muslim wall, the medieval remains that are preserved today are the Serranos Towers and the Quart Towers. In El Carmen you will find the centenary Plaza del Árbol, the Portal de la Valldigna and the small Casa de los Gatos. In addition, this neighborhood is famous for its street art, its bohemian style and its museums of contemporary and modern art where the IVAM, the MUVIM and the Centre del Carme stand out. Undoubtedly, a place full of life that has everything, even terraces where you can have tapas or a good Valencian paella.
Valencia Town Hall Square
The large square where the Town Hall of Valencia is located. is surrounded by buildings, this square is famous for hosting major events and festivals, including the traditional mascletás de la Fallas.
Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar
According to an ancient tradition, the basilica was built in the same place where the Virgin appeared to the apostle Santiago, who was preaching on the banks of the Ebro. The first chapel in her honor was erected around the column or "pillar" on which the Virgin leaned. The building remained intact despite the missiles during the civil war, some say it was protected by her.
