Day 2:

Beach, sun and family fun

After a long trip, the best thing you can do is enjoy this day at the beach in Mallorca. All the beaches have sun loungers and umbrellas for a fee, but you can always go with your towel and lie down on the sand of Playa de Alcudia, Puerto Pollença or Ca'n Picafort. In the first line of any of them, you will find a great gastronomic offer, shops, bars, cafeterias, souvenirs and even perfumeries and supermarkets. Our recommendation is that you relax, enjoy the sun and the sea breeze and take the opportunity to eat a good paella with a very cold sangria (the classic that never fails) in front of the sea. When night falls, you can enjoy the summer atmosphere of the area: romantic restaurants, cocktail bars, chill out bars, pubs with live music and travelers from all over the world happy to be in Mallorca. Quite a privilege!

Alcudia and Pollença: most beautiful towns in Spain

Alcudia and Pollença have been awarded the Most Beautiful Town in Spain award. This means that they meet a series of strict requirements, since this distinction is not awarded to any municipality, but rather has to be thoroughly examined by the experts of the Spanish organization The Most Beautiful Town in Spain. In fact, in this list of towns awarded as the most beautiful in Spain, there are only three in the Balearic Islands.

Spanish Sangria Recipe

The perfect sangria

The perfect sangria is made at the moment and is homemade -no bricks, bottles, or taps- so it will take a few minutes to serve it. Our recommendation is that you ask the waiter first if they make it themselves, this way you will avoid disappointment... Sangria is usually served in a jug, at least one liter, so if there is an option to order just one glass, doubt that it is homemade already. that its elaboration takes many ingredients and it is not profitable or feasible to serve it individually.

Although we can find several types of sangria, the classic sangria is red wine. The ingredients that sangria usually has are:

  • Brandy or peach liqueur, orange liqueur or cointreau.
  • Red wine
  • Orange soft drink (if it is natural juice, much better)
  • Sugar
  • Fresh fruit: orange, lemon, strawberries, apple, banana, melon, blueberries, grapes... Whatever is in season. The better the sangria, the more variety of fruit. If it's all citrus, they haven't tried too hard...
  • Cinnamon stick (optional)

There are slight variations on what is included change the natural orange juice for orange or lemon soda. There are even those who make sangria with soda. All these formulas are valid and are very rich. The important thing is that they make it in the same establishment and not pour a liter of bottled sangria into a pretty jar...

The importance of Majorica pearls in Mallorca

Majorica Pearls are an emblem of Mallorca. Its first center and main factory is located in the municipality of Manacor, although there are stores in many other parts of Mallorca. Since 1890, they were pioneers in the creation and production of high quality artificial pearls -maintaining the patent until 1948-, and in human resources, generating job stability in the town of Manacor and making this town and its pearls known internationally. The employment was always carried out by women, the so-called "pearlers" who had stable work all year round and extraordinary benefits for that time, including childcare service in the factory itself and a commissary where the pearling families could make their provisioning of provisions. Quite an advance for that time that, together with the treatment and conditions, added the affection of the Majorcan people to the quality of its products.

Day 6:

Enjoying the beach and the lively port

There is less time left to finish the holidays in Mallorca, so nothing better than enjoying the beach atmosphere, the sun, the beach bars, the paella, the sangria with your feet in the sand, the summer sunsets, the walks along the shore ...

If you go to any of the ports (Puerto Alcudia, Puerto Pollença or the port of Ca'n Picafort), you can see a beautiful picture where the llaüt is the protagonist. The llaüt is a beautiful traditional boat from the Balearic Islands and an icon of the island and its Mediterranean character.

In addition, the port is always the place of leisure par excellence where Mallorcans meet, no matter where the port is, and it is where you will find beautiful restaurants to dine quietly while enjoying the views and bars where you can have a drink after dinner. A very good option to enjoy your last night in Mallorca, also known as the island of calm.

Llaüt, typical Balearic boat

The llaüt

The llaüt is a beautiful traditional boat from the Balearic Islands that was used for trawling. Currently, most have included a motor and use it more for recreational fishing or to enjoy the sea than as a professional tool, but the truth is that the traditional llaüt, the traditional one, consists of a small boat built with indigenous lateen sail wood, about four meters long, holding three masts and that can reach speeds of up to seven knots. Its structure makes the llaüt a consistent boat of great stability capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions. Majorcans say that the llaüt is

Although there are still old traditional llauts that have been inherited from generation to generation, the truth is that there are many fans and deep-rooted lovers of the Balearic Islands who are looking for navigate this boat. This makes it possible for them to continue to be built in wood and other cheaper materials, easy to maintain and of excellent quality, such as fiber, the same one used for yachts. Of course, the way in which they continue to be built is handmade.
