Santander is the capital of the provincial autonomous community of Cantabria. It has an important urban center with beaches and a natural harbor. Areas worthy of a visit are: Mataleñas, El Sardinero and La Magdalena, the summer residence of Alfonso XIII. Among its many points of interest are the Centro Botín, the cathedral, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the Plaza Porticada and the promenade. Just a few kilometers away from Santander, you will discover the Liencres Dunes Natural Park and the Cabárceno Nature Par, the largest semi-free animal park in Europe. The Costa Quebrada, Santoña, Laredo and Castro Urdiales are also within easy reach of Santander.
Santander has some wonderful restaurants both traditional and avant-garde, one or two of them are Michelin starred and are definitely worth blowing the budget for that extra special occasion
