Bangkok is a cosmopolitan city and the capital of Thailand. It is known for its impressive temples, the royal palace, the canals that run through the city and the lively nightlife. Among the most notable places to visit is Wat Pho, where the great reclining Buddha is located; the Grand Palace where the Wat Phra Kaew and the Emerald Buddha are located; Wat Arun, a temple dedicated to the Indian god of dawn and which you can climb; Wat Saket, also known as the Golden Mount, which has 300 steps to the top of the artificial hill on which it stands, Wat Benchamabophi, the marble temple; Wat Trimit or Temple of the Golden Buddha, which houses the largest solid gold statue in the world; the lively Khao San Road, a place for backpackers, street stalls, street massages and pubs with live music; or Chinatown, the largest in the world.
