Opium Museum (Chiang Saen)

This small museum located next to the “Golden Triangle” was founded by Patcharee Srimatyakul in 1990, due to a passion for collecting objects and souvenirs related to opium. Its collection shows tools and objects used to plant, harvest and trade opium such as pipes, weights, scales, scrapers, etc. And it also includes some beautiful poppy flowers, the source of opium production.

Wat Rong Suea Ten

Built in 2016 on the remains of an old abandoned temple, it owes its fame to its spectacular blue color that decorates the entire complex. With a design similar to the Black House, its characteristic element is the play of colors between blue and yellow, which decorates the entire building, and the white color that decorates the main Buddha figures found inside. Inside the complex, the 2 large Nagas that flank the entrance to the enclosure and the ubosot stand out, this is the most beautiful part of the temple, it highlights the murals that decorate the ceiling and walls and, in particular, the impressive 6-meter-high figure white color of a seated Buddha. The figure is even more beautiful, thanks to the bluish and pink reflections that are generated by the light from inside the room. Outside the hall, the finishes of its golden roofs stand out. On the opposite side of the entrance there is also a 12-meter figure of a white Buddha.

Wat Rong Khun - White Temple

It is an unconventional contemporary Buddhist and Hindu temple whose construction began in 1997. It is different from any temple in Thailand for having an "ubosot" (temple meeting room) that was decorated with white color and crystals. The white color signifies purity and the crystal the wisdom of the Buddha as the "light that shines in the world and the universe". To enter it you have to cross a canal bridge that leads to the room. The villagers here believe that Buddha crossed this bridge to preach the dogma for the first time. The small semicircle in front of the bridge represents humans in the world. The large circle is the mouth of Rahu, a black-bodied angel who is now the symbol of Wednesday night. All the drawings that are inside the ubosot were decorated with gold. In one of the other rooms, the floor has four types of animals representing: the elephant the world, the Naga the water, the swan the wind and the lion the fire.

Phayao Lake

Located in the north of Thailand, it is shaped like a half-circle moon. It is the largest freshwater lake in the northern region and the fourth largest in the country, with a depth of 1.5 meters and an area of approximately 1,980 hectares. It has about 50 species of fish.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

It is a temple that is located on the top of Doi Tung, the highest mountain in Chiang Rai, approximately 2,000 meters above sea level. It was built in the 10th century with two subsequent restorations in the 13th century by King Mengrai of Chiang Rai and in the 20th century by the revered monk Khru Ba Siwichai. It is made up of twin Lanna-style stupas, one of which is believed to contain the Buddha's left clavicle, attracting Buddhist devotees from all over Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Sukhothai Historical Park

This place gathers the archaeological remains of the kingdom of Sukhothai. It is located near the modern city. The city walls form a rectangle about 2 by 1.6 kilometers. There are 193 archaeological sites in 70 square kilometers of territory. There is a gate in the center of each wall. Inside, remains of the royal palace and 26 temples are preserved, the largest being Wat Mahathat. Wat Sri Chum

It is a complex built at the end of the 13th century by King Maha Tammaracha II. Its name means "Temple of the Tree of Enlightenment" and its main attraction is the most famous Buddha image in Sukhothai, measuring 15 meters high by 12 meters wide, white in color and in a very good state of preservation. The features of the face and hands with the nails painted in gold are some of the characteristics of this Buddhist image.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram

It is a Buddhist temple located west of the Chao Phraya River. It was built by King Prasat Thong as the first temple of his reign, as a memory of his mother, who lived in that area. It was designed in the Khmer style, a predominant style at the time. Its name literally means “Temple of the long and glorious reign.” It has a 35-meter-high central pagoda tower, in Cambodian style, with 4 small pagodas. The entire construction stands on a rectangular platform, which is surrounded by 8 pagodas connected in the shape of a cross. Along the outer wall were 120 statues of seated Buddha. It was a royal temple where Buddhist ceremonies were held and it was used as the residence of the kings.

Wat Mahathat

It is a Buddhist temple located within the Ayutthaya Historical Park. It had royal status and was considered the most sacred during the kingdom of Attuthaya, a kingdom that ruled Thailand between 1351 and 1767. The main pagodas are: Mahathat Chedi and Mahathat Prang, both with relics of Buddha. At one point in history, these were temples where the Supreme Patriarch (head of the order of Buddhist monks in Thailand) resided. The construction of the Mahathat Chedi began in 1374 during the reign of Boromma Ratchathirat and was completed under the reign of King Ramesuan. The temple was destroyed and burned during the Burmese invasion in 1767 and has been in ruins ever since.

Wat Pho

It is a Buddhist temple known as the “Temple of the Reclining Buddha”. It is located in the Phra Nakhon district, in an area of 80,937 square meters south of the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Built in the 17th century, long before Thailand's capital was established in Bangkok, King Rama I ordered the temple to be expanded in 1788, bringing in statues and other artifacts salvaged from the former capital Ayutthaya. Subsequently, various kings carried out renovations, the last being in 1982, for the city's bicentennial celebrations. It has more than ninety stupas. It consists of two main sections, the sacred (Buddhavas) and the residential (Sangghavas), where the monks live. In the Phra Vihara hall is the image of the reclining Buddha. Chinese granite statues "guard" the access to Phra Maha Chedi Si Rajakarn, the four 42-meter-high royal stupas. Phra Ubusot is the great hall of monastic ritual ceremonies, built during the reign of Rama I and reformed by Rama III, along with two galleries with 394 Buddha sculptures, as well as Phra Buddha Theva Patimakorn, the second largest Buddha image in Wat Pho, depicted seated on a pedestal.

Temple of the Emerald Buddha

It is the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand, located in the historic center of Bangkok, within the grounds of the Grand Palace of Bangkok. The full name is Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram. The construction of the temple began when King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1785. Unlike other temples, it does not contain any place for monks to inhabit, instead only having sacred buildings, statues and pagodas with a rich decoration. The main building is the central ubosot, in which the Emerald Buddha is located. Although it is small in size, it is the main religious icon of the Thai people. Legend has it that the statue was created in India, but had a long journey before reaching Bangkok. After centuries of location changes, General Chakri captured it from Vientiane and brought it to Thonburi and then brought it to its current location.

Bridge over the River Kwai

This railway bridge was built in 1942 by Allied and Asian prisoners of war forced by the Imperial Japanese Army. Nearly half of the prisoners who worked on the project died from disease, mistreatment and accidents. This story is famous for the novel by Pierre Boulle and was immortalized in the film “The Bridge on the River Kwai”.
