Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz is the smallest municipality in Tenerife (Canary Islands). It has an extension of only 8.7 km2 but with a large seaport and a historic center of great value in which more than 140 buildings are protected. Its pleasant temperatures, which range between 22 and 15 ºC, made it the first tourist center in the Canary Islands, recommended in the 19th century by the British Medical Society for the health of its inhabitants. Among its points of interest are the Lagos Martiánez, the Loro Parque, the Botanical Garden, Playa Jardín, Plaza del Charco, the fishing district of La Ranilla, the church of La Peña de Francia, the hermitage and the Paseo de San Telmo. Among its most popular cultural events are the International Street Art Festival (MUECA), which is held in May, the Bavarian Week, in August, and the Bach Festival, in December. Among the popular festivals, the carnivals, San Juan and the festivals of the Virgen del Carmen are the most beloved in Puerto de la Cruz.
